Banff Marten Street Residential
Banff, AB
The Nature’s Coin Development is a proposed staff housing project located on Marten Street in the heart of Banff, Alberta. Developed during the schematic design phase in 2018, the project responds to the growing need for quality, efficient staff accommodations within a constrained urban setting. The final design includes 31 residential units, ranging from one- to three-bedroom layouts, thoughtfully arranged over three storeys atop a parkade structure.
Situated on an extremely tight site, the total development area spans approximately 4,339 sq. m. (46,715 sq. ft.), including a 1,525 sq. m. (16,415 sq. ft.) parkade and three 938 sq. m. (10,100 sq. ft.) floor plates. The compact site and Banff’s strict development conditions informed a modular construction strategy to reduce on-site impact. Residential units were designed for off-site fabrication and would be craned into place, streamlining construction timelines and minimizing disruption to the surrounding community.
The project balances density and livability, offering a flexible range of unit types (studio to three-bedroom configurations) while optimizing land use within one of Canada’s most environmentally sensitive and spatially constrained towns.
