North Wind Wellness Centre Addiction Recovery Community Housing
Pouce Coupe, BC
The NWWC Addiction Recovery Community Housing (ARCH) Project is a purpose-built, 4,200 sq. m. (45,000 sq. ft.) integrated health and wellness facility situated on a 9-hectare (22-acre) rural site in the northern British Columbia community of Pouce Coupe. Designed to support individuals on the path to recovery, this unified facility combines short-term treatment, long-term transitional housing, and wraparound support services within a single, thoughtfully planned environment.
The program includes a 5-room detoxification ward, 10 treatment unit rooms, and 40 residential recovery suites, creating a continuum of care that supports participants through all stages of recovery. Supporting infrastructure includes commercial kitchen and dining areas, administrative offices, counseling and therapy rooms, and dedicated spaces for life skills training, education, and vocational development. At full capacity, the facility will accommodate up to 110 program participants and 20 full-time staff.
The design prioritizes community integration, with public-facing components such as multipurpose spaces for outreach, education, and support services. These elements are designed to be adaptable and expandable, allowing the facility to respond to future community needs and program evolution.
Constructed using a hybrid approach of stick-built and modular wood-frame techniques, the ARCH Project optimizes cost efficiency and construction timelines, while supporting sustainable practices. The facility is being built to achieve Step Code 3 compliance under the BC Energy Step Code and meets all relevant BC Housing standards for safety, accessibility, and performance.
This project represents a critical investment in long-term, community-based addiction recovery, offering a safe, structured, and supportive environment for healing, growth, and reintegration.
