Stephenson Block / Scotia Place

Calgary, AB

As part of the larger Scotia Place development in Calgary, the Stephenson Block heritage restoration project reflects our dedication to preserving the city’s architectural heritage while fostering dynamic, contemporary urban spaces. Originally built in 1911, the Stephenson Block is a notable example of Edwardian commercial architecture. Our restoration focused on conserving the building’s historic façade—including its original brickwork, detailed cornices, and arched windows—while seamlessly integrating it with new construction and modern infrastructure. A key component of the revitalized space is the proposed ground-floor café, designed to activate the street front and create a welcoming, community-oriented gathering place. The café will feature large, operable windows and thoughtfully restored architectural elements, offering a unique blend of historic character and modern hospitality. This integration of heritage and new use not only safeguards a landmark building but also enhances the vibrancy and pedestrian experience of the local streetscape.
